Tell us the label name, roughly how many artists you work with and where you are based. Independent labels in the UK and US.

We approve by hand

A person reads every application. We email you when the account is ready to set up - you can browse and buy as a fan in the meantime.

Invite your artists

Invite by email any artist who already has an Insound account. They accept from their own dashboard - you cannot add anyone to your roster yourself.

The split

You run the catalogue. They keep the account.

A label on Insound is a manager of catalogues, not an owner of them. That line is enforced in the product, not just promised here.

  • The power to remove your label at any time, without asking

Every sale pays the artist's own account. Not ours, and not yours.

There is no label balance to draw down and no platform float. However you settle with your artists is your arrangement with them.

Who it is for

Independent labels only.

You own or control the rights to the music you sell. Major labels and the imprints they own are not eligible, and at setup you confirm that for the label and for every artist on it. A distribution deal on its own does not disqualify you.

Does the label get paid, or the artist?+
The artist. Each artist is the seller of record and receives all sale proceeds into their own Stripe account at the point of sale. Insound never holds the money and neither does the label - there is no label balance, no label payout and no revenue split in the product. However you settle up with your artists is between you and them.
Can I see my artists’ bank details or payouts?+
No, and this is deliberate rather than unfinished. Payout history, bank details and the Stripe dashboard are locked to the artist who owns the account. You can see sales for an artist you manage, which is what you need to run a release.
Do we get a page of our own?+
Yes. Your label gets a public page at getinsound.com/yourlabel with your name, logo, bio, the artists on your roster and their latest releases. Every artist you manage credits the label on their own page, linking back to yours.
Can I see earnings across the whole roster at once?+
Not yet. You switch between the artists you manage and see each one’s sales on their dashboard. A consolidated roster view is not built.
How does an artist join my roster?+
You invite them by email and they accept from their own dashboard. They must already have an Insound artist account - the invite cannot create one for them - and it expires after 14 days. A label can never add itself to an artist’s account.
Can an artist work with more than one label?+
Yes. An artist can be managed by more than one label, and can remove any of them whenever they like.
What counts as independent?+
You own or control the rights to the music you sell. Major labels and their imprints are not eligible. Being signed to a distribution deal does not disqualify you on its own. At setup you confirm this for the label and for every artist it manages.
Can I publish for an artist who has not set up payments?+
No. An artist has to connect their own Stripe account before anything of theirs can go on sale. Only they can do that.
Does the label account cost anything?+
No. There is no fee to hold a label account or to manage a roster. Insound takes the same flat 10% of each sale and absorbs the processing fees, so the artist keeps 90%.
