How to use your downloads

No apps, no subscriptions, no lock-in. Just music you own.

What you’ve got

When you buy music on Insound, you download the original audio files uploaded by the artist - usually WAV or FLAC, sometimes AIFF or MP3. The format is shown on the release page before you buy and on each download button.

These are standard audio files with no DRM, no encryption, and no proprietary wrapper. They’re yours. You can copy them, back them up, put them on a USB stick, burn a CD - whatever you like.

Re-download from your Collectionany time the release is still on Insound - just hit the download button and we’ll send you a fresh link. Back the files up anyway: if an artist takes a release down, you keep download access for 90 days after that.

Play them anywhere

Your files work with any music app or media player that handles standard audio formats. That’s nearly all of them:

  • •Apple Music / iTunes - Import into your library. Syncs across devices via iCloud.
  • •VLC - Plays everything, every platform, free.
  • •Windows Media Player / Groove - Built into Windows. Just open the file.
  • •Any car stereo with USB - Copy files to a USB drive, plug in, play.
  • •Poweramp, foobar2000, Winamp - Audiophile favourites. All work.

Get them onto your phone

iPhone / iPad

  1. 1.Download the files to your computer.
  2. 2.Open the Music app (or iTunes on older macOS), go to File > Import, and select the files.
  3. 3.With iCloud Music Library enabled, they’ll appear on your phone automatically.
  4. 4.Alternatively, open downloaded files directly in the Files app on your iPhone and tap to play.

Android

  1. 1.Download the files - they’ll land in your Downloads folder.
  2. 2.Most music player apps (VLC, Poweramp, the default player) pick them up automatically.
  3. 3.If not, open your file manager, find the downloads, and tap to play.

The point

These are real files you own. Not a stream that disappears when you cancel a subscription, not a library that evaporates when a platform gets sold or shuts down. They sit on your hard drive, your phone, your USB stick - wherever you put them. No account required to play them, no app required to open them. If Insound disappeared tomorrow, you’d still have your music. That’s the point.
