Common questions

Questions artists ask

All questions
Is the 10% rate permanent?+
Yes. Our 10% is not a launch promotion or an introductory offer - it's the whole business model. We absorb Stripe's processing fees out of our 10%, so you always keep exactly 90%. If we ever needed to change it, existing artists get at least 90 days' written notice and it would only apply to sales after that date.
Does Insound hold my money?+
No. We use Stripe Connect - when a fan buys your music, 90% goes straight to your Stripe account. Stripe holds new earnings for about 7 days (their standard clearing period, not ours), then pays out to your bank daily - automatically, no fees. If you need money sooner, you can withdraw instantly for a small Stripe fee (~1%).
What formats do you accept?+
WAV, FLAC, AIFF and MP3. We recommend WAV or FLAC where possible - fans download exactly the file you upload, with no conversion or compression.
Are there any hidden fees?+
No. You keep 90%. We take 10% and absorb all processing fees out of our cut. What you see is what you get.
Do I keep my masters?+
Always. Uploading to Insound gives us nothing except permission to host and sell your music on your behalf. You own everything, forever.
Is there a subscription fee?+
No. It costs nothing to sign up, nothing to upload, and nothing per month. We only make money when you make a sale.
What happens if I want to leave?+
Take any release off the store whenever you like. Anything with sales stays hosted so the people who bought it keep their downloads - everything else you can delete outright. Your Stripe earnings are already in your account. No lock-in, no penalty.
Can I set pay what you want pricing?+
Yes. Every release has a minimum price and fans can pay more if they choose. Many artists find fans voluntarily pay well above the minimum.
How do download codes work?+
Generate them free from your dashboard, in batches of up to 50 - perfect for gigs, press or promotions. Each code is single-use and trackable, and lasts 90 days by default.
Can I do pre-orders?+
Yes! You can enable pre-orders on any release. Fans pay upfront and get the release on launch day.
